Symposium on possible legislation for alternative dispute resolution - submission by Karen Erwin
The symposium took place on Saturday 28th April chaired by the Attorney General. Karen argued that the process of mediation should not be regulated but that Mediators should be by a professional body. see Submission
Workplace Bullying - Code of Practice
Karen Erwin has written a report on the ESRI Survey 2007 into bullying in the Workplace and on the Code of Practice 2007. The Code recommends mediation to resolve disputes in the first instance. The benefit of mediation is that it gives the parties the opportunity to air their concerns in a very safe environment with a mediator who is trained to help the parties to resolve their issues. If the parties come to a satisfactory solution (which happens in around 80% of mediations) then they and their employers have really benefited by the reduction in stress in the workplace and the possibility of absenteeism.
